First Intel build since PII (1997). Final thoughts?

Yeah, you read it right.

(Thanks to the guys in the memory & air cooling sections for their suggestions!)

The build list is below. I already have the optical drive & the storage drive for this system.

This will be my first OC build EVER. I wanted to do air first. My wife will ultimately get this rig, and I will probably do a much larger wc project next year (if/when AMD finally gets their act together).

CPU- i2600k
MB- Asus P8Z68 Deluxe
Ram- Corsair Vengeance 16GB 4x4 1600 low-profile (i run lots of VMs at times, and it's just plain cheap)
SSD- OCZ Vertex 3 120GB (drive appears fixed with the new 2.11 firmware)
PS- Corsair AX750
Video- Asus GTX570 DCII
Case- Silverstone FT02B
Cooler - Thermalright Silver Arrow

Total cost w/shipping about $1860. (my original aim was to stay below 2k)

What speeds should I expect to obtain (being conservative)? (I am only planning to OC the CPU/Mem for now).

Here is the Newegg list link (I was having problems uploading a screen cap that was big enough to read). It is missing the Silver Arrow, because I had to get that from FrozenCPU.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=18309186

Thanks for reading!

Unless you or your wife edits HD videos, go with the i5 2500k and 8GB of RAM.
Other than that. Looks good.
Also where is the HDD? If you're going to use just an SSD I would recommend Intel's SSD's.

I already have a couple of WD Caviar Black 750GBs for storage, but I may only put one of them in the system. I'll have a look at the Intel SSDs. Thanks.

8GB of RAM is plenty. Also, I have the Crucial M4, it's really a great SSD (the older model C300 still has better IOPs IIRC). If you get an Intel SSD you should look at the 320 series.

Looks like a very nice build overall though

Looks good to me. As far as speeds, from what I understand you can get 4.2-4.3 out of the box without changing anything but the multiplier. I will be finding out myself today when the rest of my parts get here.

I just want to 2nd Paratrooper's suggestion on the CPU and RAM.

And also wanted to say awesome choice on the case. Best case i ever owned, just be warn that thing is a monster, be sure you have space for it.

Good looking build though. Good luck and most importantly, have fun!
