Unless it's going to be running any type of intensive GPU/CPU with overclocks...you should be able to run it with a quality 400W. You probably could go lower but I personally always want to have some headroom since I don't want to run a PSU on a moderate load 24/7. Just be sure to have it all in a case with decent airflow thumb.gif

I probably need to make one too since I'm wasting so much electricity having my computer idling 24/7 on ~500watts.

that's what I figured, but are the corsair builder series quality ?? they don't seem to be very quality compared to their more expensive brothers.

i have a corsair cx430 v2. just remember if you buy a large psu your efficiency is gonna blow if you are only pulling low wattage. I think with that set up you will be pulling about 80-110 watts during load (1080p/blu ray etc) and maybe 150 max on start up. And I actually think you wont even see those numbers. So say you buy your self a 500 watt good quality psu. And you are drawing 120 watt for example. That is 24% load. What is your psu efficiency at that load? just something to consider.

I have heard the antec green psu are great for efficiency. I bough the corsair cx430 v2 cuz it was $20 after MIR and I love their customer service. The v2 is better than the original cx 430. check out johnny guru's site for the testing.

My htpc (in sig) now has a few additions. A perc 5i, 5 x 2 TB Samsung eco, 6 x 120mm fans, and a 160 gb laptop hdd. I have been meaning to look up how much wattage it pulls. I will post some number up tomorrow.

If I knew of a good quality 350 watt psu i would buy that instead. Remember most psu's are the least efficient at low or high load.

Many, many people here will recommend you overkills. I would suggest you do research on psu efficiency vs load. Read a few reviews and decide for yourself.

very, very good suggestions here! Thank you. Finally someone who know how to recommend a psu!

I need to look into these.

edit
that Seasonic SS-300TFX 300W is insanely efficient! makes me want to buy it now!

thanks for the replays so far. I am not so much concerned with efficiency as much as reliability.

edit: that seasonic wouldn't fit in my case. I need the normal sized psu

Yeah, I am very sure it will be enough if you take a good quality PSU like i have linked.

sandy bride - i3 2100 = 65W
ASUS P8H67-M PRO = 40-60W
x6- HITACHI 2TB Deskstar 7K3000 = about 75W when all in use
Total = around 200watt, having an 80% rated psu will make it draw around 240W. this is just at full load wich a server will hardly reach. USB ports use 10W max i think.
Ask Tator_Tot or Pheadrus to be sure wink.gif
300W PSU should be good for your system

My own server runs on a 300W PSU of lower quality then i have linked to you for years and years
