570 TFIII vs 6950 TFIII - Page 2

The 6950 is probably going to overclock better, 570s have had a bad rep of frying (thread somewhere for it). Also, you have 3 monitors so you could use it for eyefinity on a single card.

As others have said though, the 570 will perform better in a few other titles than amd because of optimization. But it's nothing more than a few frames across several benches. Overclocking would put it above that seeing as it's one of your priorities as well.

The only thing HD 6950 has over that GTX570 is have more RAM. If it was a HD 6970 then i would get that. Also since you have a HD 6950 try Nvidia. As far as performance dont expect much more. I moved from GTX580 to HD 6950 and sow 10-15% slower fps and with GTX570 it will be ~ 5-10%.

I didn't realize you had 3 monitors. If that's the case, I'd say 6950.

Probably overclock better?
That's pretty much depends on how lucky you are. Some cards overclock great and other not so great. For Gtx 570 732 -> 850mhz is pretty usual. My 570 goes to 970mhz stable with under 1.1v. Got lucky.

And what comes to that bad rep of frying is pretty much old news AFAIK.
Even that threads topic is now "Have you killed a 570? (No recent deaths, buy some 570s!)"

Overall performance on Gtx 570 is pretty much between 6950 and 6970. In some tests its par with 6970 or even a bit faster. It ain't that hard to google some reviews.. jeez ppl.

If going for multimonitor-setup 2Gb is better of course, no denying that.
There's also 2.5Gb Gtx 570's on sale. Atleast in europe price difference is pretty small vs 1.25gb models.

Thread Starter
I game on a single monitor. I have two which is why the 6950 ran so hot. It wouldn't drop below 450. My 560 didn't have that problem except in sli.
Im thinking I should just go back to nvidia.

Even at 920mhz I can lock my 570 at 40% fan. The highest temp I've seen is 79C, the 6950 uses less power so it would probably run even colder. The Twin Frozr is a great cooler. I've had issues with NVIDIAs drivers though, kind of ironic as AMD is supposed to be the one with issues.
