Just bought HD 6870 and doesn't work! HELP?!

Hi all,

My Specs
MOBO: Asus m4n68t-m
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1055T (socket AM3) 2.8ghz
Current Graphics: HD5450
New Graphics: HD 6870
New PSU: Cooler Power 850w

Ok so I bought the HD6870 and I dont get any display at ALL. My PSU has been playing up and rated to peak power 650w so I upgrade that to a peak power 850w thinking the card may not be getting enough power. No change.

Ive tried additional card power with just 6 pins and with 2x 6 pins

Ive tested the new card in a friends PC with the same card and it works. I tested his card in mine and no display as well.

Old card works fine.

Ive tried removing drivers, turning off and installing new card and turning on etc.

Ive updated BIOS

Ive pulled bios battery out

Ive tested another monitor with new card in and still no display

The only thing I can think of is its the motherboard... as in its old or not compatible or something. So I was thinking of buying the same or similar motherboard as my friend with the same card since it works in his. His MOBO is Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3.

What do you think I should do?

And if you think I should get a new motherboard, do you think this system will be able to handle BF3 or other decent new games?

Thanks for all your input!!

Anyone help with ideas to fix?

fill out your system specs please. That will help us help you.
what PSU did you get?
where did you get this card from? if you bought it new, RMA it as soon as possible.

What other specs do I need to fill out? I would have thought the ones I listed were all that was needed.

Yes I bought this card NEW from a shop.

As I said I have tested this card in my friends PC and it works so getting an RMA I think would be useless.

Is the board set to use the PCIe video card, and not the integrated chip?

Also, does your old card still work fine, everything else the same?

I would say yes because I have been previously using a PCIe card and not the on board.

I have also checked in BIOS and its set to boot PCIe first before onboard

put the card in the pci-e and boot up into windows with onboard. Check if the card is recognized. If not then check your ram. My gpu's wouldn't boot up until i moved my ram over to different slots.
EDIT: make sure power is delivered to the GPU's with the 6pins.
EDIT 2: Also check system then device manager.

So your old card works in your PCIe slot but your new card doesn't work? However, your new card as well as your old card both work in your friend's PCIe slot? Hrm...that's really weird...I am going to presume that it's your motherboard's fault.

I did this and from memory is did not recognize the new card. I will try again though. I only have 2 RAM slots with identical RAM. I will try this but I don't see how it would work.

I always just use device manager for things like this.

I haven't tested my old card in my friends pc but the rest of it your right. I'm thinking it's the mother board, bad thing is by the time I replace the motherboard I have seriously replaced everything except the CPU. So I may fork out for a decent mobo. Any suggestions would be great. This pc will need to last me a year and I'd hope to play BF3 when it's out.
