Thus the VRM circuit can be the limiting factor to overclocking stress testing, not the actual CPU. In actual use you would never be able to put a 100% sustained load on all 8-cores for any period of time, if at all, so you may only need to stress test the 8-core FX CPUs for 1/2 hour to know if they are stable?

+1 on the bolded statement

Most but not all of the VRM circuits may be fine for normal PC use other than extended stress testing which by it's nature is not realistic when you get beyond four cores as the additional cores can't be saturated in any PC use, for any length of time.

Hmmm what software do You use for reading this temperatures?

I think the software has a bug.

Tried my board with the 1.91A, and 1.90, temperatures are just superb.

Touched the VRM and they are as cold as ice.

hwinfo64 show the cores drop down to stupid low speeds test this morning and it seem to drop at idle and fine on load
and the temps are from hwmonitor anyone recommend other software that works properly on fx 8350

seems stable though can run ibt and cb11.5 and 3~4 hours of battlefield yesterday

its a shame they are reading like this really wanna overclock this chip on this board had this chip at 4.8 on my chivf

Tried the HWInfo64, latest stable and latest beta, no issue with the board.

My idea is that:
1. The monitoring software does not understand how to calculate the probes with the FX-83xx chips.
2. Your OS has some other software that causes the error in calculation.
3. Aliens!

Use the "Finger" method - if it is nice and warm, and does not burn your hand - than it is OK. thumb.gif

i have touched all heatsinks on the board they seem ok cold to touch
i have tried windows 7 and 8 x64 and both the same result wierd temps and drop in core speed which is putting me off overclocking this board
anyone else using vishera with this board or anyone else have a insight into why this might be happpening ?

or would this be a reason to rma the board

Disable CnQ and C5/C6 functions, then the board will not downclock the CPU.

And in the OS set the Power Options to Max Performanse.
The VRM heatsink can get hot under P95, OCCT (after a period of stress testing) or heavy video or similar CPU power use.

According to AMD, the only temps that count are the CPU core temps. The temps in the FX processors are reportedly accurate from 40C upwards. The abnormally low temps below 40C are not accurate per AMD. The CPU/CPUT/CPUTIN or similar designations are the CPU Socket Temp. which typically runs 15C-20C higher then the core temps, when the CPU is under heavy load. At idle the difference is much smaller as there is little heat being generated. You can ignore the socket temp as it has no significance since we've been able to read core temps.

rma'd my fatal1ty 990fx because of a squeal from the board
recieved my replacement yesterday everything install fine but noticed can only run single channel ram no matter on dimm config and windows 7 x64 is saying 8gb ram 3.97gb usable any ideas why

sorted it only works in black slots

but replacement does the same as first board and squeals
