New Mouse Suggestion

Thread Starter
I've been reading a lot of the mice section here at overclock and I'm kinda stuck on what mouse I should buy. My deathadder 3.5g just broke, I sold away my g9x cus it was too heavy and had acceleration problems. I can't use my 3.0 because it skips too much and 400 dpi can't cut it on a 1080p screen. I've resorted back to my old logitech g5, but it has pretty heavy negative acceleration and skipping when moving at high speeds and changing direction quickly. The g5 has my favorite shape of all the mice I've used thus far and I do some hybrid palm/claw grip on it. I also have an abyssus but I can't get used to the shape. I just can't control the mouse with that weird shape that razer put on it.

I've looked into the Logitech g400 and the CM Storm Spawn. I've tested my g5 for prediction and it does have slight prediction (I have the 1st gen g5, battlefield 2142 edition), but I prefer that shape to the deathadder due to my hands being kinda large (just under 8inches from middle finger to bottom of my palm).

Would the g400 be troublesome with the prediction/angle snapping? Is the angle snapping equal the g5, more or less prediction?

How are the ergonomics of the CM Storm Spawn? Anyone who liked the mx518/g5 shape switched to the Spawn and liked it? Will I get neg accel from the spawn for moving too fast? Afaik, the g5 had a pretty low perfect control rate and I would get neg accel in both SC2, SCBW, UrbanTerror, and CounterStrike Source.

Thanks

I think your best bet would be with a MX518. It doesn't have the skipping issue of the G5.

mx518 and g400 are about the same. It has some prediction, but due to its huge popularity and somewhat high status in the mice world I would say that its prediction issues aren't that bad. It's not even that bad of a thing to have, especially if you love flick shots.

The spawn is a wierd shape so you need to test it yourself.

If you like G5 then maybe change mouse pad to one that works good up to 2.2m/s.

The G5 was my first laser mouse and first "gaming" mouse, I loved it a lot at the time, and used it for quite a while. I had and liked a Deathadder, but the shape wasn't good for me, caused cramps in the back of my hand, and I eventually had to give up on it. But it performed very well. After the Deathadder, I went to the Steelseries Ikari Laser, and it was very comfortable and performed well, just a little hard to lift, without accidentally hitting the thumb buttons. After that, it was a CM Storm Sentinel; I liked the fit, but had the Z-axis bug, and the delayed-resuming-tracking-bug-after-lifting bug, and the occasional stopped-tracking-for-no-apparent-reason bug, and eventually gave up on it, after trying a number of mousepads. I had a short flirtation with the Xai, but the shape didn't work for me and the tracking was no good on cloth, and the sensor would wig out, if it got the tiniest hair or bit of dust in it. Following the Xai, another short flirtation, this time with the G500. The general shape was good, very much like my old G5, but I hated the thumb buttons, hated the scroll wheel, and it had all the tracking problems of the Xai. I got the Mionix Naos mice, both the 5000 and the 3200. They were both extremely comfortable, best shape yet, and a lot like the Ikari. The 3200 has prediction and a high lift-off, and the 5000 doesn't really like cloth mousepads. Which, finally led me to the CM Storm Spawn. After my experience with the Sentinel, I wasn't real keen on giving CM a second chance, but the shape and the new optical sensor intrigued me, and it was fairly inexpensive. The early firmware had a few issues, but after the latest firmware pack 30a, 31, 32, the Spawn finally works absolutely great for me. It reminds me of the Ikari and Naos, except it doesn't fill my hand in a true palm grip, it is more fingertip grip, at least for me. I don't arch my fingers and press my palm to the mouse like a true claw grip, my grip is relatively flat and relaxed. You pretty much have to put your ring finger on the ledge, and your pinky on the right side. It's light, grippy and easy to lift. My hands are fairly large, 21 cm from wrist to middle finger tip, and 21 cm, measured with a tape wrapped around the middle of my hand (without my thumb in there; just like you get measured for gloves. The width of the Spawn is what makes it comfortable for me, that and the low height. Long answer, but yeah, going from the G5 to the Spawn is certainly possible!

What mousepad and firmware do you use on your spawn? I just ordered one and I'm going to see how I like it. If I don't I'll probably just buy either an mx518 or a g400.
