GTX 570 vs. HD6970

Thread Starter
Hello! I'm new here, so please let me know if I do anything wrong.

I'm building a new gaming PC. It's primarily for Battlefield 3, but I will of course use it for many other games. On the BF3 Alpha forums, I had some people giving me tips for my GPU.

I have heard from several people that the GTX 570 is better, while from others that the HD6970 is better.

Can someone please help me out? Thank you!

Oh, and the specific models I was looking at were these:

The 570 is about 10% faster for less energy consumption. (and more OCable)

Hello mate

Some like NVidia, and others like AMD/ATI!

Those two cards will both on average, run the same!
Some games run better on NVidia, and some on AMD/ATI.

Me "I like NVidia"! But others like AMD, just as much!

Oh, and welcome to OCN

I'm an ATI fan, but still I'd say that this particular Nvidia is any day better than this particular ATi.

Slightly higher stock performance, better OCability, lower TDP, PhysX, 3D.

Hmm, so the general consensus in this case seems to be that either they will run the same or the GTX 570 will (slightly) outperform the HD6970?

Beware though, if you want to overclock, you should get the non-reference beefed up GTX 570. Otherwise, there are cases of blown VRMs.

As others said, both cards are equally good, but as AMD user I recommend 6970. If you want to upgrade to a higher resolution monitor or want to give eye-infinity a try, the 2 GB RAM from 6970 will serve you real good. And no I do not think 570 is 10% faster - at best, they are equal.

I thought of that, but don't have the money for another monitor and am not planning on getting a higher resolution.

So this is more "pick whichever you prefer"?

Oh, and could you please give me an example of said "beefed up" card?

This is definitely one of those pick what you prefer situations. I'd get the NVIDIA because of the better drivers, but if your going to use multiple monitors in the future than get the 6970 for eyeFinity. Overall though the cards are relatively the same.
