GTX 570 vs. HD6970 - Page 2

Well, I would be using a 2048x1152 monitor. Would the 6970 be preferable then?

Check this link man, it may answer your question

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/H...D_6970/29.html

If i was you i'd get a reference 6950 and unlock it, its not guaranteed that it would unlock but unlock rates are pretty high (90+%)

Yes, definitely 6970 then. And do not fall for the "AMD drivers bad". Under ATI, they were bad and AMD carried over the bad rap. But they vastly improved it.

Reference 6950 and unlock it (just the shaders).
I'd choose a 6950/70 over the GTX 570 any day.

Well, according to the tests I'm seeing, even at high resolutions (2560x1600) the cards are roughly equal.

I think that if you don't need the features unique to one of the cards, you will be equally happy with either of them. Out of the two you linked, I would say get the EVGA 570. They have awesome customer support, whereas XFX does not.

as single cards the 570 is faster than the 6950
as single cards the 570 is mostly faster than a 6970 (trades blows but wins majority)

only way i'd recommend the 6950 over the 570 is if you get a 2gb skew and if you game at resolutions >1080p

Yes, that's what I've heard, but in the tests I've seen, the 570 and 6970 are neck-and-neck even at 2560x1600.

Are you planning on running SLI down the road? If not I suggest ponying up a tad bit more and getting the ASUS GTX 570 DirectCUII.

Takes up three slots but has excellent cooling capacity and should OC like hell.
