How does my i5-2500k OC to 4.6ghz look?

Thread Starter

Specs:
  • GA-Z68X-UD4-B3
  • Intel Core i5-2500k
  • G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600 8gb (don't currently have the XMP profile setup while I make this stable. Would it be safe to enable that?).

Additional info that might not be in pictures:
  • Multi-steps load-line is at 6.
  • VCore is set to 1.350V in BIOS.

It's been through a few cycles of Prime95 and IntelBurnTest and didn't seem to have any issues. Haven't done a long run of it yet.

Goals: I'd like to run this build 24/7 stably.

Any recommendations/suggestions? This is my first overclock.

You can enable xmp. Ram should run at manufacturer settings.

Try some 30 minute runs of 1792 FFTs and 1344. Use more than 1600mb of ram if you want. If you can do those go for 12hr.

very nice..Im drooling. However I would imagine with all that memory and that high CPU frequency you really could have utilized the 2600Ks larger cache. All in all very solid system

I'm not sure which timings of Ripjaws RAM you have (8-8-8 or 9-9-9?) but you should put the stock timings manually in the UEFI along with the dram voltage which is 1.500v.
That RAM should get to 4.6 with stock timings no problem.
Also is that the lowest vcore voltage you can go?
Means did it give you BSOD when you had the vcore one notch below?
Lower the vcore that you can make it stable, it's always better.
Also when you turn "spread spectrum" off, you can see the BCLK @ 100 instead of 99.87.

Okay, I'll try that. I'm having trouble now though, I tried turning on XMP and setting enhance performance to 'standard' so that my RAM timing would be 9-9-9-24 2T @ 1.5V however now my multiplier is resetting to x37 when I boot? I specifically had it set at 46x.

EDIT: And to respond to this being the lowest voltage, I'm not sure yet. I was going to try and go down on voltage after I determined if this voltage was stable.

EDIT EDIT: Nevermind, apparently I forgot to press enter... Going to do some stress testing now.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Okay, it's running but the CPU temperatures are about 69-73-75-71. Max is 70-75-76-73 (°C). Is this too hot? Should I start lowering vcore?

Lower the vcore you can get it to make it stable is always better.
When benching/stress testing, it can reach 80c no problem.
But the CPU starts to throttle down around 95c and shuts down at 98c.
So anything below is fine.
But lower the temperature (voltage), it's always better.
