restore to factory image or..new install? if you want a new install just pick up a new copy of windows or linux or whatever and if you want factory image well..they sell restore discs if you call the maker of the laptop..unless your friend made a backup factory setting disc? id either pick up a new copy of windows or buy the restore cd's preferably pick up a new copy of windows..goodluck

What operating system is it running?

Spamming F8 will get you into the advanced menu for Windows.

It has the original os which is windows starter, I shouldn't need disks as it has a factory restore image on a partioned hdd which is 13GB, I have used this on other laptops, but have no idea how to do it on this netbook.

Hit F8 a lot on boot, then select the option to repair or whatever.

Well, I'd pop off the RAM cover, and stick one in.

I'm sure it's only got 1 ram slot, but usually you can add more. Like mine laptop, only 'supported' 2gb, I put in 4gb's and it works.

hmm didn't work, Replaced the 1gb with unknown brand 2gb stick and laptop did some noise like it was booting then switched off, no display or anything, I take it laptop dont like more than 1gb or maybe memory faulty, the 2gb memory stick has been under my bed for nearly a year now, dunno if its broken. I'll remove the memory and see if it does the same thing with nothing in it.
