EVGA GTX 580/570 backplate ?s

How effective is this? Just garnish? Or does this really have a cooling purpose? I'll be running stock for a while until I can get water on my card(s).

Thanks smile.gif

I thought the purpose of a backplate was to stop the cards from drooping, especially when they are water cooled.

Nice garnish with a few degrees less heat. That won't matter with water cooling though so mainly garnish. wink.gif

*Note - I believe the WC back plates have different hole patterns (For GPU blocks) so don't get one for air cooling if you're going to water cool later.

Thanks guys.

I'm also hearing that the backplate is not compatible with certain blocks since the holes are too small or the block's screws are too short (can be fixed w/ a quick order from mcmastercarr.com wink.gif). Anyone running a fullcover block and the backplate?

I'm thinking of going with HK, since I loved their 6970 blocks (easy setup and purrtty too)

I would think that any reference 570/580 back plate would fit any reference card. You can quote me but realize that common sense isn't very common any more. biggrin.gif

I do know that my GTX470 back plates from EVGA would not work with my EK blocks. The EK back plates used different holes and came with longer screws and fit perfectly. I have 3x 580 blocks but havn't been able to catch the Nickel back plates in stock yet.

Here are my 470's with EK blocks and Nickel back plates:

the evga backplates require a bit of modding to work with an ek waterblock... had i known that i would have gone ek backplates lol...

the one with the backplate on in my system runs about 15-20* hotter in my system... so i cant tell you if they run cooler or not haha

I'm ordering some heatkiller 580 blocks in a few weeks. Temps are actually about 2-3c down, so at least there some function in a part that's overall form imo smile.gif

thats good, but your going to have to drill out every screw hole, and possibly grind some of the metal near the fittings to fit, i had to for the ek blocks
