Still in Beta - Page 357

Just checking in to say @notyettoday recruited me for GPU-L category. Applied my passkey to my 970 this morning and just PM'd BWG so should be putting up points today.

Also thanks to @lanofsong for "bugging" me about joining TC biggrin.gif

Welcome bigblock! It's great to have you on the team cheers.gifgrouphug.gif

Since there are multiple GPUs in the system, did you ever set the index part in the FAH GPU slot? See this guide.

My best 950 is a MSI FTW. It even has the lowest ASIC of ANY of my cards. Of course it's not "stock" anymore either. Don't need no stinkin' warranty.....biggrin.gif

The quality of the card is based on the chip you get. They call it the silicon lottery. I lose more often than I win.redface.gif

Do you mean me or bigblock? I've assigned my third card as single folding unit and also gave it the separate passkey for TC.

Yeah that's the issue with ASIC. I guess that matters more than any power supply the card has to offer, but unfortunately you can't influence that as you said already.

I'm extremely happy with my four MSI 660ti OC's. What mods did you do to it? The single card in the secondary has a CLC slapped onto it. I also did that power limit mod, which I presume is what fried the card. Therefor it gave me 30MHz more than the other three, so it was worth it while it lasted biggrin.gif

Yes, you. Check your GPU utilization across all your cards the next time you see it stop.

I put mine under water with an AIO and did the resistor mod with a silver conductive pen. I also used a epoxy TIM to mount aftermarket heat sinks to the VRM's and two little chips that're not usually addressed. Not sure what they do, but the mid-plate had thermal tape on them so I deduced they were affected by heat. I also ghetto rigged a fan from an old AMD CPU over the VRM's to dissipate heat (only one I had that would fit). And I'm running a stock BIOS. When you by-pass the resistors you've enabled free flow of power, so I didn't think it was wise to mod the power limit. I'm running a solid 1567mhz with minimal added voltage (50,000 mv I believe). That's a Linux setting. Sounds like a lot but it only increases the voltage to 1.25 or so.

During this I also discovered this 950 is actually a "nano" card with a plastic tail piece to make it appear as one of the big boys. I removed the tail piece along with all stock mid and back plates. Stripped 'er down to the bare essentials. Like a race car. She even has a roll bar of sorts with the copper wire I used to fab a fan mount bracket. I had to drill holes in the PCB to mount it. That's why I know there is no warranty. No guts, no glory! tongue.gif

No, I believe you're mixing things up. I was folding for TC on my secondary rig, which also has a 660ti. This system has a single card. This card is failing and is probably fried.

Now I've switched to the primary rig (Frozen Panda) and am folding on a single card for TC. Everything's running fine now. I'm still getting a 950 for the secondary, though, as I don't want to reserve an entire system for single card folding 24/7. That would be >1000W vs ~250W.
