OSX journaled to ntfs

Thread Starter
Long story short... I have a thumbdrive formatted for a mac (Mac OS Extended Journaled) and need to use it on my windows computer.

I don't have access to a mac and windows 7 isn't detecting it. Does anyone know of a way to format this thing to ntfs? I tried booting into a win7 install disc and even that doesn't detect it. I also left it for >1hr and still no dice.

it wont detect it in my computer, go to disk management and the drive should show up there and then right click and hit format

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management

Try formatting there. Or if that doesn't work you can install a trial of HFS+ enablers for windows so you can read it in Windows.

Now I have a 14.71gb unallocated partition with no option to create a partition (right click leaves everything greyed out except for help and properties) and a 200mb healthy(EFI System Partition) where right clicking leaves all options greyed out except for help.

Now what?

I just checked with my system and it won't do it using Disk Management however both trials of Macdrive and Acronis Disk Director work.

But can you see your thumb drive in 'my computer' now? Macdrive just reformats it into HFS+. If you can see it in your 'my computer' window, then just right click and format it using windows to NTFS etc.

I think its probably because you tried to delete the volume in Disk Management then.. XD or its your software not working properly. Try restarting or installing Acronis.

Try running a program called BOOTICE. http://www.pendrivelinux.com/restoring-your-usb-key-partition/

Follow the guide in the URL I listed above but choose USB-HDD mode (single partition) instead of USB-FDD.

Edit: Or you could use HP USB Format Tool. That might be easier.
