MSI 6950 Twin Frozr II/III cooling question

Thread Starter
I am looking at picking up a couple MSI 6950 Twin Frozr II or III's. Probably the III since they are only $10 more. With my motherboard, the two x16 slots are right next to each other with a dual slot card. How would these cards cool being that close together? I am questioning because they do not vent out the back of the case as far as I know. My x8 slot on the bottom of the board is not really an option because it is too close to the bottom of my case and I only have 7 slots so I would have to mod it if I needed to use the bottom slot.

Next question....I'm assuming these are not reference cards, is that correct? I may be getting back into water cooling soon, and I've heard the reference cards are easier to find blocks for. I may have to wait on the cards until I know what if I'm going to do water or air. But if the Twin Frozr cards do not cool well being stacked, that may be my excuse to just get a Case Labs T10 and set up a loop.

I can't answer the question about how close the cards will be. I will say though that non-ref cards are wider than ref cards, due to the fans of course, but you should already know this. A pretty good amount of people here though have XFire Twin Frozr III 6950s though, so it shouldnt be a problem at all. I'd ask around for someone who does have them, and ask them personally.

For the second question, no, the Twin Frozr III are not reference.

Twin fan coolers lose their advantage when installed one on top of the other.

They're not ref, but MSI's cooler design includes a separate integrated heatsink that connects the ram and vrms. This is great because you can add a gpu only waterblock and use the integrated vrm/ram heatsink with it.
