965 Suicide Run :D

I was feeling kind of brave tonight, so I decided to crank up the voltage and see what my trusty 965 can do... I was a bit surprised

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1930069

This would have probably been stable with more voltage, but I dont really have the cooling for it as you can see

and that's not the end of it

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1930082

I can't wait for my rasa kit

and yes.. my ram sucks.

If you're doing that on just 1.464V, you sir... chip.... golden....

This chip has blown my mind since i first started overclocking with it, It overclocked to 3.8 with stock voltage, and I run it 24/7 at 4.0 with 1.385v.. I love it
post #5 of 77
Damn, I was hoping when I get my 955 it would run at 3.8, seeing this makes me want to try and get it further...

Just a question...when you make a run like this, is it stable? Like would it run prime or something for hours on end without crashing? I am just curious. I could probably get mine to boot and load windows and such at a higher speed just don't think it would be stable without alot more voltage. Just a question, but if you are stable at that, then I am jealous.

The 3.8 was 3 hour Prime95 stable at least, I've always thought that running prime for more than that was kind of pointless..

4.0 is also at least 3 hours of prime95 stable, and also 20 runs of IBT stable, at max settings

edit; If you mean the 4.4, no.. its not particularly stable, but I have plenty of voltage headroom to make it stable, I just dont have the cooling for it right now, though even like that it could validate and run superpi.. i cant remember if it was this or 4.3 that was stable for 5 runs of IBT at standard

Ok cool. I was just curious. I too don't really rely on prime. I just game and use it like usual and see if it is stable. OCCASIONALLY (like once a week MAYBE) I will get BSOD, but I don't really know what causes it, and frankly I will take the trade off of increased speed vs. the occasional BSOD. Hell I would like to push it farther...but I am at 1.46 now...and I have heard so many conflicting opinions on what temp to rely on when load testing (be it the core temp, or the "cpu" temp) that I am kind of afraid to go any higher. I monitor core temps, but some say the socket temp is more important...I lean to believe it is the core temp...but I am no computer genius.

well, i wouldn't go so far as to not use it at all.. There's a sticky somewhere explaining how running an unstable overclock all the time can corrupt windows.. With your chip I would make sure its not going over 60C under load.. If you dont like running prime, just make it do a few runs of IBT at max stress, it does pretty much the same thing, and you aren't putting stupid amounts of stress on your cpu for an extended period of time, good luck to you though

I used intelburn for 2 hours on highest settings. CPU temp hit like 64 but core temp peaked at 58-59. On prime it ran for a few hours and cpu maxed at like 58, but cores maxed in the upper 40's. Thats why I am afraid because no one can give me a for sure answer on which temp is critical.

Idle is very low 30's, internet browsing, listening to music etc, is around 37 and playing BFBC2 on max everything it hits around 42-44.
