About to dive in for a couple crossfire 6870

Since this bitcoin non-sense has taken off it's been hell trying to find some AMD cards locally. A place down in Houston finally has some in stock and after much debate and many amazing benchmarks, I decided on a couple 6870 for crossfire after selling my sig card.

So I wanted to ask a few things.

1. I know that when it comes to profiles AMD has Nvidia beat in this category and made me change plans from my original 460 in sli to 6870 crossfire. Just how quickly do they update exactly?

2. For the crossfire bridge, I seriously doubt that the one that comes with his will be long enough for a 2 slot gap. Any good recommendations for a replacement? I see XFX makes a long one, should I pick that one up?

3. How much trouble is the initial set-up?

Your going to see Nvidia-based owners repel that AMD has better profiles, because it's been asked a thousand times. And both AMD and Nvidia have strengths and weaknesses.

The Crossfire bridge that comes with it SHOULD span between two cards with an open slot in between, but I'm sure there's a cheap sale on OCN/eBay that won't set you back much more then Happy Meal.

The initial setup is extremely simple, and unless CCC has a conflict with other installed drivers, you shouldn't notice any major problems. Again, your going to hear accusations that AMD's drivers are a complete fail.

I think two 6870's are a force to be reckoned with.

But I have 2 slots hence why I asked. You're a rocket scientist, Sheldon, you should have known this

And BAH, I've had both sides and to be honest I've had more stability with AMD than nvidia. I go where my money is going to be put to good use, not what some fanboy says on the internet.

Actually, I'm a theoretical physicist So your trying to run a Xfire cable between tow cards, with two slots-worth of space? Yeah, XFX is the only vender I've seen that makes one long enough.

And I'm with you on the AMD/Nvidia, I've prefered ATI in the past, and have never been disappointed. But with F@H burning a hole in the back of my head, my next build will be riding on Nvidia.

I JUST got my two 6870's today in the mail and set up my rig this afternoon. Initial setup was almost no effort at all - Catalyst Control Center (I already had the latest version installed) automatically recognized the 6870 in crossfire and I had to do nothing more. These cards are awesome! Puts a single 5870 to shame (no surprise knowing the high scalability of the 6870's in crossfire).

I've overclocked my cards, which was a breeze, and have been playing Crysis 2 with both the DX11 and Hi Res packs on Ultra settings. So far, everything has been fine and I am extremely satisfied. I won't be looking back to my single 5870...
