I think I have coil whine... what do I do?

Hey guys

I have a Corsair TX 750W psu powering all my components.

My friend was over today and he was like DUDE HOW DO U WORK THROUGH THIS NOISE?

And I learned that I have coil whine =/ I thought it was normal, but his 4.6ghz or w/e i5 2500k computer makes literally no noise except for the fans whirring.

Neither of us are really sure what causes it (he knows cuz his friend had same issue)... so I'm asking here.

Is it being caused by my PSU or some other component? Its impossible to find the source.. I tried for like 10 min =/

What do I do in this case? Is this normal? Could it be my mobo that's bad?

I have college starting in a month.. I need my system to be quiet.. it works fine but the whine is freaking annoying.

You can't do anything about it sadly. And no you cannot fix it unless you RMA and I don't think you can even RMA because of coil whine. Since you got used to the noise there would be no reason to RMA anyways. And no it does not mean your hardware is dying or that it is faulty. It is normal in some cases as in, some hardware have it , some don't.

well it certainly is annoying. I thought it was normal but it says on corsair's forums that I can try to RMA it... should I?

Could it be my mobo too? i can't really pinpoint the noise... any tips on pinpointing the source?

It's annoying now that you notice it. And it kinda is normal sort of speak because its happens all the time , its just the luck of the draw. And you could RMA if you really wanted too. If it's getting on your nerves you possibly could RMA ( doesn't hurt to ask ) but even then it maybe not be your PSU, it can be anything hardware wise. And well to pinpoint the source, when do you hear it? Computer boot? Load?

I had a monitor that did that. I had to slap it. So, uh, take the PSU out and gently shake it?

i thought it was my fans i turned off case fans (not HSF) and it was still there, so i turned on fans to 100% and hsf off for like 5 sec and still there... so...
