What to do with a broken 6950?

Thread Starter
Long story short, I purchased a used custom rig from a seller on eBay for cheap. UPS handled the computer roughly during shipping and the 6950 broke...the backside of the case was dented inward, causing the backplate of the card (where the video output ports are) to bend in a strange way. After communicating with the seller and eBay, the seller just decided to give me a partial refund with which I purchased two 6870's They are awesome, btw!

Now what to do with the non-working 6950 which I was still allowed to keep...? Any ideas on how I might be able to repair it? Basically, it does not display anything from any of its ports (DVI, HDMI, mini-DP), but Windows will recognize the card when it is installed as a secondary card. Any ideas on how to fix it or make use of it in any way? I don't need a paperweight.

Edit: no warranty on the card

If you can ensure it is functioning well other than the output defects, could use it as a secondary card and crossfire it with another 6950/6970.

This is what I would do.

Sell the 6870s and buy a 6950.

If they're references, flash and unlock them.

Before selling 6870s, take the card defect 6950 to a friend with 6950/6970 and test it in crossfire configuration.

Crossfire 6870's are a fair bit faster than a single 6950...

I've tested the card as a secondary card in my system, using a 4850 as my primary. It seems that Windows XP recognizes the 6950 (which is a reference card), but when I try to boot into Windows 7 on the same system, it will freeze at the "Loading Windows" screen.

From Windows XP, I can see the proper core and memory clocks in GPU-Z, so I think it may be fine, but for whatever reason it is not recognized in guiminer (for bitcoin mining). Also, GPU-Z does not recognize the 6950 as an OpenCL device. Could that possibly indicate something? All drivers are updated.

I will try to crossfire the card with my friend's 6950 and see what happens...

OP, you should claim your refund from UPS not from the ebay seller since the item's value should be more than $200? anyways, two 6870's won't make a full rig so it's up to you to spend even more money to get to play game...

edit: bake the card since you got nothing to lose

Oh I forgot to mention that UPS and eBay were taking their sweet old time with this issue (UPS potentially just running us around to avoid paying up). That and the eBay seller offered to give me a refund so that we could just settle the case right then and there.

If all else fails, I'll try baking the card. I've actually always wanted to try that, haha. And the 6870's in crossfire are surprisingly fast. My 5870 (which I sold right after purchasing the 6950 on eBay) pales in comparison to the 6870's. I knew the 6870's would easily top the single 5870, but I didn't realize by how much... Plus the 6870's were each $155, after rebate.
