I know these are softwares to provider 3D support for gaming but i could never quite understand how these work? Does it work for Nvidia and i notice when i look at software there are options..

Step 1: Select your device or output:

http://www.iz3d.com/select_download

And i have no idea what to download? I don't have a 3d monitor at all..

I do see Anaglyph or Shutter.. Are these for paper 3d Glasses or what?

Or do I have to HAVE a 3D monitor to play 3D on any games? I just wanna fully understand this before i even attempt to try it.

Advice? I wanna know.

I'm no expert, but the "3d monitors", or "3d ready" are just 120hz monitors, which you can use glasses to split the frames to 2x60hz images. For the glasses, all I know is the nvidia 3d glasses which are part of a kit (charger, reciever, etc.)

But you do need a 120hz monitor, and 3d glasses (they just split the frames for the 3d).

Also it has been said to stay away from many 120/240hz tv's for this because their internal processor's upscale everything somehow, rather than take a 120hz signal.

I've tried both Nvidia 3D Vision and iz3D with just Red/Cyan anaglyph glasses. And no you don't need a 120Hz/3D monitor to do this.

I'd recommend just using Nvidia's program since you have a 460.

Here's the instructions on the site. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-discover-driver-setup.html

The anaglyph version is alright, you get depth from it but just the fact that it's Red/Cyan it makes it hard for dark areas. Tried it with L4D2, was cool, but couldn't see well most of the time.

IZ3D has support for every kind of 3D.

I've used it with Real D glasses (Green/Magenta). Looked pretty cool too, especially Borderlands and Batman AA. Just, the green only colour got annoying after a while.

Not all 120 hz monitors can run 3D. Even if they could, if you have ghosting (which is effectively a bleeding-over in 3D) on the monitor, that's no good. There's a reason Nvidia lists the ones they approved of.

OP:
I tried anaglyph graphics on Oblivion once... the effect was neat... but the time it took to tweak it (convergence and depth... stuff like that) combined with the fact you're dealing with washed out colors, made it not worth it to me. Maybe with a really bright game which you're good with being red and blue (or black and white, after your brain compensates...)
