e8400 @ 4 ghz really struggling in bfbc2 but not gta iv? - Page 3

Quad core is definitely recommended. I had the same issue with my old E8400/GTX460 rig. Got my i5, and it ran smooth as butter.

Speed doesn't really make too much of a difference in games. Perhaps benchmarks. I don't see a difference when running my memory at 1000 or 1600. Same with timings, which is why I leave them at stock.

I had the same issues with my e5300, i had it at 4ghz and the games sputtered at times, but i just upgraded to a q6600 and at stock the difference is shocking.

It now runs smooth with all settings at medium with 4x aa.

Definitely a quad is the way to go.

I have a friend who went from a dual core to a quad core because he was lagging in BC2. He said the difference was "night and day"

My quad core kills it now though...

Do NOT buy a 955 if you're getting a new PC/new mobo. If you have a 1366 mobo lying around, fine...otherwise, you're insane to choose 1366 over 1155 for anything other than a 980 or 990x (and that's only if you truly feel like throwing out money for no real reason).

Quad core will make a night and day difference in the multiplayer. Here's a screenshot just paired with an HD 3850:

I played the map Oasis for both benchmarks on a 32 man server. Processors were the Athlon 5000+ @ 3.1 and the Phenom 925 @ 2.8 GHz.

That should do well in BC2.
