I trusted the devs and blindly bought C&C4 when it was new as there was no demo, after playing I quickly realized why there was no demo, it's utter garbage. I didn't get into the series until C&C3, which I thought was amazing. I bought the expansion when it was released, also bought Red Alert 3 a few weeks ago which is just C&C3 but, with a different style, got it during Steams Summer sale in July of this year for $4. All the C&C's were $4, I had forgotten about it for the past few years then i saw it on sale and bought it in a heartbeat.

For me personally, I'd chose SC2 over C&C4, and I did play all the way through C&C4 as the campaign is very short.

In summation, you could try it, I'd expect SC2 to be a safer bet, or you could buy both.

I highly recommend C&C 3 though, just not 4.

Yeah I've played all C&C games which were pretty good, except the fourth one which I havent played just because of the bad reviews, so I wasnt sure if I play it or not

if you can snag a copy of C&C the first decade, thats well worth your money. The original C&C and original Red Alert are still the best imo. Anything after Tiberian Sun has been a disappointment to me.

Sole Survivor was awesome back when people actually played it online

C&C 3 is probably the last good C&C game. EA completely butchered the series, I used to be a die hard fan back when westwood was still in charge.

In C&C 4 they put the final touches into ruining the game. First of all there is no tiberium harvesting and no base building. Heck you don't even have a permanent base. You go into every game with a "mobile base" that has everything you need in it. So there's no teching up, no building advanced structures to get advanced units. They did all this to make the game fast paced when that's not what C&C was ever really about.

TLDR just get SC2. It has a great single player champaign and a large community creating custom maps. Then if you want a further challenge there is the ladder system where you actually have to work hard to progress up the leagues.
