It's actually pretty easy, the downside is bye-bye warranty but you take the stickers off the bottom of the mouse, remove 3 screws and pull the shell off. The only tricky bit is the scroll wheel has some small parts so doing it on a smooth surface is a good idea, it makes it easier to find the spring thing if it falls out. You can also adjust the loudness or smoothness of your mousewheel by bending a spring that makes the clicking sounds when you scroll.
I think the screws might be under the skates on the g400 but
here's a guide for the 510 anyway, the 518 is designed the same way as the 510.
