Fedora and WoW

Thread Starter
Hello again long time no see. I'm looking at Fedora for the first time in a long time. What did they do to my OS? The desktop is completely different, is there anyway to get the old one back?

I would also like a guide to installing World of Warcraft and how to install ATI drivers, the system uses a Raedeon HD5450.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's WINE specific information regarding WoW.
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...sion&iId=23843

There are some other users (like enorbet) who have experience with WoW and Linux. The most I can recommend to you is to make sure you install the latest proprietary ATI drivers, through an OS utility. I have no experience with Fedora, so I hope other users will help you out there.

Yep. Works on Fedora too. WoW works better on WINE though. Just takes minimal tweaks.

I found what I think are the drivers for the card but apperiently I have nothing that can unpack them

? Nvidia drivers are on their site, it is also a binary file so you just run it. You can't be running Xorg though, I would recommend booting to single user mode.

Yep... sorta...

Make sure you have the latest kernel then run
Code:
yum update kernel*
reboot
Now add the RPMFusion Repositories (Free and Non-Free)
Code:
rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm
Install nVidia proprietary drivers for GeForce 6/7/8/9/200/300 series cards (with FX cards its different)

Select kmod, kmod-PAE or akmod from following.

For kmod-nvidia
Code:
yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs
For kmod-nvidia-PAE kernel
Code:
yum install kmod-nvidia-PAE
For akmod-nvidia
Code:
yum install akmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs
Now, open /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and check following rows:
32-bit it should look like:
Quote:
Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
EndSection
and for 64:
Quote:
Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia"
ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules"
EndSection
This should not be necessary, but missing rdblacklist=nouveau nouveau.modeset=0 is the most common reason which causes black screen / blank screen on boot with nVidia drivers. So check the following:
Open /boot/grub/grub.conf file and check that the kernel row have following rdblacklist=nouveau nouveau.modeset=0:
Quote:
title Fedora (2.6.35.6-48.fc14.i686)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.35.6-48.fc14.i686 .... rdblacklist=nouveau nouveau.modeset=0
initrd /initramfs-2.6.35.6-48.fc14.i686.img
If all good. Reboot.

EDIT: Aww crap... you have ATI >.<
