High quality PSU for GTX 580 SLI?

Thread Starter
According to Phaedrus PSU calculator I need a 750 watt, but I'm going to get an 850 because I plan to have it for a while. Is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...%20Gold%20850W a trusted PSU?

Yes, that is a good PSU. It is on the recommended PSU list.

I've had bad luck in the past with these "cheepo" psu's and I just want to get a good one that will work well and be reliable. As an example, my first 700 watt psu couldn't power a single gtx 580....

Internals are the same as the Sentey Golden Steel 850W ($144 shipped after promo code):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817322011

Supposing that Sentey honors it, their warranty is longer as well. Reviews:

why would you get a bigger wattage psu if you are planning to keep it for awhile?

I'm planning on keeping the PSU a while and will most likely have a more powerful set up in it later.

Yeah, I think sometimes its more about brand than wattage. My Corsair 650W powers my gtx 580 great. OP: for the price of that PSU I would look at a Corsair one, 850W would be good.

Brand matters when the small brands use units that can't actually deliver the labeled wattage. If you want a 850W also consider the OCZ ZX series 850W, it's 140 after MIR on newegg

I would just invest in a Corsair AX1200. It is on the expensive end of the spectrum, but truly is the best PSU on earth. It can handle any current and future power needs.
