This. The new 6950s are laser cut so that they cannot unlock the shaders. I'm now sure if there is something different with that Asus 6950 but most now do not unlock. I personally go with the single best card because it allows you to upgrade in the future by simply adding a second card. Yes you can go tri-fire with 6950s but that just leads to a lot of heat, driver issues, and more power. By getting one 580 now you get as much power as you will need for 1080p as it can max out any game and in the future if you start to struggle maxing out games you can get another one. That time is a long way off IMO. I bought my 470 about a year and a half ago and i can max out all games that I've played except Metro and Crysis which I knew when I got the card and now after all that time I still haven't gotten a new game my card can't max out.
