Hey all so I plan on buying the galaxy s2 from bell for $400(its from a bell employee who I know) was wondering after I buy it can it be used on the telus network?

You have to SIM unlock the Bell Galaxy S II before it'll work for Telus.

You can try Mobile in Canada and see if you can buy an unlock code for $21 CAD.

http://www.mobileincanada.com/How-To-Unlock-Your-Cellphone

Enter the IMEI and check if they can unlock it first.

It's extremely easy to unlock the s2 from bell.

Follow this simple root guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

For my Bell S2 I used this kernel which is also found in that topic:
CF-Root-SGS2_JP_XSG_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip

The go to android market and download Galaxy_S run the app allow it superuser access and you are done!

Keep in mind by rooting and unlocking you run the risk of bricking your phone, althogh chances are very low if you follow the instructions to the dot. I take no responsibility if you brick your phone.

that is the only free way to do it? How easy is it to root? is it like installing custom firmware on a psp?

This is why I didn't suggest the rooting method, not everyone is comfortable with the process.

If you follow the guides carefully, its really not that hard.

Check out XDA for more information.
