Best Cooler For Pentium Dual-Core E5800

Thread Starter
I have a Pentium Dual-Core E5800 (stock 3.2GHz) oc'd at 4 GHz. I am hoping to go beyond that with a better cooler (currently on stock cooling).

Which of these is best worth its price and my CPU?

I tend to shy away from CoolerMaster due to cheap connectors.... no good if you plan on moving things around alot. But, if you plan to plug-n-forget, then I would go with the CM. They're consistently middle-low to middle-high as far as quality is concerned.

None of the above. Spend a little more and get a Cooler Master Hyper 212 +

Second that recommendation for the 212+, it's an amazing budget cooler.

Yeah that may be a great cooler but I'm not dealing with that much heat. It would just be a waste of money. I'll buy one of those when I move to a Core-i5 or i7 platform. Right now I got a burning Pentium Dual-Core.

With stock Intel cooler:
- 49 C idle
- 72 C load
- 74.1 C maximum for CPU

That's what's scaring me. I am looking for a real budget cooler that will do this job and nothing else. Which of the three I mentioned above would suit my profile best?

Also, I don't have any case fans as of yet, and have a ZOTAC GT 430 in there as well, with its own small fan, pointed away from the CPU. Then my CoolerMaster power supply has a large 120mm fan pointed directly at the CPU.

PS: Right now, I'm really considering the second one.

I couldn't get beyond 3.62 stable even with a Vendetta 2!

Bit the bullet, spent $47.00 USD on a Corsair H50, now I'm rock stable at 4.2 on an old ASRock 775DUAL-VSTA even with only 11.32V available (known ASRock problem on this mobo ).

Next step is to fix 12v issue ( known fix ).

Should go over 4.5GHz!

Really? With the same CPU as me? I could easily overclock to 3.8 GHz with the stock cooler on an Acer stock board using software overclocking alone! With no voltage adjustments (not that the crappy board let me)! Now that I have a proper board, I can easily go beyond 4 GHz (where I'm at right now) if I got a better cooler.
