Infamous-"I want to upgrade"

Thread Starter
Sorry for the title, I just had to........I know you see a lot of these.

As the title says I want to upgrade.
I would like to stay around $500-$600.
I would like it to be as small as possible.
Good cooling is a must (possibly 120mm fan somewhere for an H80)

Now, on to what I'm wanting to upgrade:
1. CPU
2. Motherboard.
3. Ram
4. HD
5. Case

I use my comp. for digital art, surfing & gaming(online & offline)

Well best bet would be to get a 2500K and ASUS P8P67 PRO (REV 3.0) with G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB 1333MHz ram

CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115072
MOBO - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131703
RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...l-_-20-231-311

All up is around $440

And i would also suggest getting a bigger monitor too, Maybe 24"?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e-_-24-236-102

Maybe even sell your current GPU and get a nice 6870.
EDIT : Just saw you don't have a case,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133189

*Newegg only ships to United States and Puerto Rico.

Ph II x4 955 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103808

$120

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128510

AM3+ mobo $140

Samsung spinpoint f3 1tb: $60 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152185

8 gigs of mushkin ddr3 ram $50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226095

As for case, you could do lots of stuff. I'd say Cooler Master 690 II basic or advanced.

other people can pitch their ideas.

total so far is 369. I'd honestly see if you can grab a better videocard and a 1080p monitor though. you could easily grab a 6870 and a 1080p monitor and stay under budget if you don't go nuts with your case

edit: and if you're looking for more cpu power than anything you could of course grab a 2500k and a nice 1155 motherboard

1333 vs 1600 makes no difference.

Anyways, At this point I think it's absolute to wait for BD. Just do it, either way you will be glad you did.

Here's what I put together for you. I tried to make it quiet, and small (MicroATX) too.
  • So 4 of these from Petra's. Get the 4 for $20. 2 for CPU cooler, 2 for case.
  • Maybe a couple of these from Petra's. Only 1 needed I think.
  • This RAM from Newegg.
  • This motherboard (Intel) from Newegg. / This motherboard (AMD) from Newegg.
  • This CPU (Intel) from Newegg. / This CPU (AMD) from Newegg. Something cheaper, go for this.
  • This Lian Li MicroATX Case from Newegg. Expensive, but great looking and performing. If you want something cheaper than I would get this.
  • This CPU Cooler from Newegg. I'm sure someone can recommend a better one. You could switch it to an H80 and still use the 2/4 120mm fans. I don't know if it will fit in the case.

So around ~$30 from Petra's for the fans. Around ~$570 from Newegg with shipping. You're right around ~$600. And remember the fans are not needed, and you can get a cheaper case.

I couldn't fit a new HDD in there, but this was just a quick one I put together. Get the cheaper case and you save ~$50, or the cheaper CPU and save another ~$50 which is more than enough for a HDD, maybe an SSD fi you keep your old HDD.
Plus, if you are a new customer at newegg, you can the the "newcustomer10" coupon for $10 off.

EDIT: Just realized this is was the AMD forum
Let me put a good AMD CPU and Mobo. Gimme a sec. The AMD route is much cheaper.
