The RV03 the HDD/SSD mounts behind the case, and part of the 180mm fans blow to the back.

I prefer the look of the FT02 myself. Much simpler and cleaner. Its all upto looks and how you want the side window placed.
Some people when sitting at there desk, like to look at there case sometimes and see inside. So wherveer you sit, will be the one you want.
I see. Is the noise padding in the FT02 just marketing or does it actually work?

a) when the graphics card is oriented vertically, some of the heatpipes are pointing down. Due to gravity, the cooling capacity is partially lost.

b) this cooling design dumps a good portion of the heat inside the case. With the airflow design of RV02B, hot exhaust air from the graphics card will inevitably be recirculated back into the graphics card and also to the NH-D14.

Both are obviously not desirable. Although these 2 factors will likely not causing thermal problems (eg BSODs), nonetheless the cooling efficiency of the card and the CPU cooler are both reduced and the design feature of the RV02B is not best used. Silverstone does not recommend this case to go with cards having cooling design like DirectCU as maximum cooling performance cannot be achieved (see pic below).

I see. Thanks for that.

So, if the heatpipes are pointing down that would mean the heat source is above which is bad... and the HAF-X won't suffer from the cooling design of a DirectCU II graphics card? Is there perhaps another graphics card like a Twin Frozr that would good or ideal in a vertical position?

Twin Frozr is the same situation. Best cards are watercooled or reference design.

The HAF X, has a side 200mm fan, plus you can mount a 120mm fan to the HDD to push more air towards the GPU.

If all, the HAF is very good to work with. I have one.

I used to have an FT02 and if you keep the fans on low settings then you can only really hear something when you're right next to it.

I moved my window from the outside of the case to the inside and I think that may have made it a little louder

Other than those things, it's a great case. I personally dislike the look of the Haf series cases, but both seem to provide good cooling. It just depends on your preference I guess

DirectCU II design will not suffer when put inside a HAF-X as all heatpipes are in a horizontal orientation.

And unfortunately, Twin Frozr will just suffer as well. Read the following article for more detail description:-
http://en.expreview.com/2010/11/15/9...r/11843.html/3

As mentioned above, there is also the complication of hot air dumped inside the case, especially if the hot air is expelled via the card's front. I have added a pic in my previous post showing the 3 escape routes which are all not desirable.

I see. I'm starting to lean towards the HAF-X as I'm not willing to give up having DirectCU II cooling on my cards.

Thanks a lot for the information. I see, I was unaware that the hot air is expelled via the front of the card. Will this also be a problem in the HAF-X?

I'd easily buy another HAF X as it does not rely on the surface its on to suck in cool air from the bottom. I do not know how well the Raven case has for cable management, but this HAF X has so much room behind it that i could fit 4 times the cables I use now.

Heres some pics of my HAF X, its mostly at night, but you can see what I have. The 5870 is using the Arctic Cooling Extreme GPU cooler with the VRM-R3 heatsink.

Ah, thanks. Does that Cooler + Heatsink offer better cooling than what you'd get with a DirectCU II card?

I think the Rosewill ARMOR Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case is best for airflow. it wrecks the competition. voted editors choice by legitreviews on newegg.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147047

That's some nice monster cooling going on. Only problem is it collects. dust like crazy, but I just spray air on it twice a week. This think can cool a tank pretty well, pure airflow and ventalation case.
