Dell keyboard broke

Thread Starter
Dell keyboard broke...now I can get it replaced and such, but I was going to return the system! My friend bought the exact system (with little less RAM and such) couple weeks earlier than mine and I was thinking of sending along his keyboard to Dell instead of mine. He can get the keyboard replaced any time he likes. Time is the issue you see. I do not want them to cancel my return seeing the broken keyboard.

I do know keyboard has model number on the back but do people at such companies actually check such minor things? Will he have a problem replacing the keyboard under his warranty?

I doubt dell even cares if you return the keyboard, they are so cheap.

Get a newer/better keyboard instead of taking time to RMA the broken one? lol

Advice:

Ditch the cheapo rubber dome keyboard and spend some money on a decent mechanical keyboard. You'll wonder where they've been your whole life.

basically, if the system is new, just return it, when returning it they will ask for a reason, if the kb or any other component was damaged during shipping (you can say that) and return it for not being happy with it.

but if you broke it in an angry rant, returning it just for that would not be ethical but you could still get away with it.

and no, your friend will not get in trouble or have any problems replacing his keyboard under warranty

It's just a keyboard...

I've seen basic USB keyborads on sale @ Fry's an Microcenter for under $5. I don't think Dell really cares.

You can often find old, and sometimes rather valuable keyboards at local thrift stores for under or around a buck too.

This depends entirely on whether you broke the keyboard, or if the keyboard died of its own accord
