Thermalright Venomous-X Black causing instability

Thread Starter
hey guys,

well i bought a TR Ven-X off another forum to replace my Prolimatech Mega (first version), all the reviews told me that the Ven-x kept up with the noctua DH-14 when i installed it, i ran intel burn test, i was getting temps in the low 80s and it would bluescreen, i dont know if this is due to heat or the cooler touching something on my motherboard, but i tried everything, i resat the heatsink about 4 times, tried all the pressure, like 40lbs-70lbs nothing changed, i have my Megatron back in, temps are 10c lower and my pc is now stable again.

anyone got any idea what is going on? all comments are welcome.

what fan do you use with your Ven-X?

1 x Silverstone air penetrator
1 x Silverstone air penetrator Exhaust

Temps:
Prolimatech Megahalems - Idle 33C - Load 71C
Thermalright Ven-X - Idle 32C - Load 82C

thats with a Ambient of 23C-24C.

cheers

the Ven-X is populated by a very dense of fins,
you'll need stronger fans, something with high static pressure

I'm a Ven-X user too, and this cooler sucks when I put my Enermax Magma on it...
but now I'm using delta on my Ven-X (controlled of course), and I'm happy with it.

I think the FM121 will give you better results with this cooler...

good luck mate smile.gif

Get a Delta, Scythe GT, Noiseblocker, or Thermalright (TY-140). I don't remember if the Ven x used 120 or 140.

what would be the best out of all of them? would 1 gentle typhoon do the job? or 1 for heatsink one for exhaust or push/pull no exhaust ?

Would you guys say an SFLEX E @ 1200 rpm is enuff for this sink? How does this look? (Don't mean to threadjack!)

i5 760 @ 4 ghz
1.344 V loaded
3 SFLEX E 1200 rpm case fans (2 front, 1 rear)
Linx all ram 20 runs stable

24 C ambient
82 C load CPU
59 C load P7P55D-E Pro temp

well,
I've tried the push / pull config for my Ven-X, and it seems rather in vain...

here's the results:

I would recommend 1 for push, and the other for exhaust on your case, would be best IMO

nah, that S-Flex is rather weak...
I've recently tried the Cougar Vortex, and I'm quite happy with its performance (for a 1500 RPM fan, it move lots of air trough the dense fins of Ven-X)

You shouldn't need Delta fans or anything like that on the Venemous X. From what I hear it works well with low speed fans too. Something is clearly wrong. You could have a bad mount or the cooler is just plain bad.
