to answer that ending part...

go with the 580, simply put the 580 will give you more performance then the 590 will.(Talking strictly about single card performance)

The HX 1000 would work very well. even a 850W PSU will be enough.

The 580 pulls 363 watts under load. Hx 1000w has the 2x 500 rails like you said so you are all set. You should have np running them in sli.

Corsair HX1000 is enough. I will go one step further to show you how the two GTX580s are to be connected.

See the diagram below (just treat the GTX480 as GTX580). The key is to separate the two cards (GPU1 and GPU2) to each rail (12V1 and 12V2).

hey wind thanks for the diagram but wouldnt i just need to add cable to just 1 or do i need to use both the 12v1 as said in the diagram?

With the single gpu you would use both that are attached to the power supply. With the dual gpu you would use the 2 blue top and bottom on the left of the power supply to run the second gpu. From what the diagram shows.

I do not follow exactly your question.

Simply put, you just connect the two GTX580s as shown in the diagram.

Basically, the first GTX580 (GPU1) is to be connected to 12V2. This connection does not involve modular cables. Use the fixed cables.

The second GTX580 (GPU2) is to be connected to 12V1. This connection involves using a pair of PCIE modular cables (with blue connectors). Be careful not to insert the blue connectors into the 12V2 rail of the PSU as this will overload the 12V2 rail.
