Why don't people use VSYNC on GTX 580?

Is it known to be bad for it or something?? I just read someone emphatically refusing to turn it on, so I researched and found a lot of OCN's members are the same way. I just got my sig rig and mine seems to run a lot smoother with it turned on, but I don't want to be hurting it or anything. Is there something that I don't know?

Depends what game you play. Racing games maybe, but FPS games should have it turned off, especially in multiplayer.

Ok good to know. But why is this?

I find that it causes mouse lag in some games (especially source engine games).

Turning Vsync gives you input lag on a lot of games. particularly FPSs.

In FPS games your reaction speeds and mouse movements will be limited by the 60FPS cap. It's a different story however if you're running a 120Hz screen.

ohhh!!! Well this must be why I'm getting destroyed in BC2. It's the only possible thing that makes any sense! (lol) thanks everyone

Well BFBC2 isn't like COD if that's what you're coming from. It's slow paced. As for VSync, it doesn't damage anything, it just limits framerate.

What's with the whole 120Hz monitor thing? I plugged one in and it could only do 60Hz no matter what I tried.

I like BFBC2 a lot more then Call of Duty, but it's not necessarily COD that's making it hard, its the fact that I have never used a mouse and keyboard!! Plus I'm still trying to find some decent servers where people actually talk.

Edit: I had a 120hz monitor awhile back and I had an option on the menu to switch it to 120hz...
