Anyway to block torrenting on my network?

So I have a wireless connection which I'm sharing with my room mate. He pays me about 20% of my total bill. But my connection crawls because he downloads movies all the time. Is there a way to block his torrenting? I don't wanna get in trouble because of him because the connection is under my name.

What router is it? Have you flashed the firmware to something like Tomato or DD-WRT?

Talk to him about it? If he's talking the whole of the connection he pays a smaller part on, to where it affects you, you need to renegotiate it.

Better yet, since he's doing bad things with it, make him get his own?

I'd access the wireless router through a browser and alter settings within that. You will need the admin. password. Just google your model and make and search for the default password if you've never added one yourself before.

Do some P2P blocking... Open DNS allowes this(i think ddwrt does too)

I would rather have him not download ....period....dont wanna get into any legal trouble...not worth it...movies are cheap now anyway...$ 1 for a day and netflix is like 7 bucks a month for unlimited online access.....so its stupid to download movies these days just asking for trouble

Better off just caping his download and upload speeds. Best way to do this is by putting dd-wrt on your router and then setting up QOS. If you're using the free version of DD-WRT then you will need to get a script generator for it (found in step 3 of this post).

Hope that helps
