Status Update:

Things I have tried:
-Unplugging CMOS batt, still asks for PW
-Putting in Ubuntu CD and booting from CDROM, gives me some options but no re-install option and I am completely lost in Ubuntu
-Putting in Win7 CD, nothing happens, black screen
-Downloaded ULTIMATE BOOT CD, trying to figure it out but apparently I am missing some crucial windows boot files... going to mess with this one tomorrow cause it is late and I am tired

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!

You are probably burning ultimate boot CD the wrong way. Look at the instructions in the website you downloaded it.

You could try another distro of linux, one that is not ****buntu tongue.gif

This is a very recent discussion on this forum. I agree with what the answer seems to be: Mint distro is the best for linux beginners, maybe you should try it.

You can subscribe buy going to: Thread tools (top of the page, just before your first post) > third option.

You can also use the multiquote button below every post to multi-quote stuff, like I just did. (select the quotes, then click to quote the last one)

On proprietary boards for HP, Dell, etc, there is usually a jumper pin that enacts the BIOS password and the system needs to be booted without it jumped to removed the password. The system can then be booted with the jumper back in place and until a password is set for the BIOS again it will remain 'unlocked'.

I assume though I'm not certain there is a similar feature on notebooks/laptops. redface.gif

Didn't see any jumpers, there is a suprising lack of info about the layout of the motherboard on the 'net, of course it is likely that I am looking in the wrong places!

That was one of the first things suggested (and suggested more than once).
OP has given it a try, unsuccessfully.

Hi everyone, I finally solved the problem by using financial aid money to buy a new laptop... Thanks for all the suggestions I tried most of them but I finally just gave up...
