Should i have used RAID [single drive] ACHI

Thread Starter
Ok on me pc i have an SSD drive so i have the bios set to ACHI, just built a new machine for me friend, he has a single SATA II or maybe sata III drive, would it matter if i just set his up as "AHCI" or should i set it up as "IDE"

It's been ages since i set up a pc with just one drive.

Thanks

There three modes: IDE, AHCI, and RAID. Use AHCI if it is just one drive.

Even with single HDDs I'm in the habit of using AHCI. The added features over IDE may not be as noticeable as they are with a SSD, but I don't see any reason not to choose AHCI. RAID shouldn't be relevant here, though, as far as I can tell.

With IDE I noticed installation times of 8 hours and boot times of a half hour or more with the system pretty much unusable.

Use AHCI.
