how to restore system drive from windows 7 image backup

Thread Starter
hello everyone,
having some trouble here, I have multiple hard drives in my system and sometime ago I made a system image backup using windows 7 backup utility, it automatically selected my system drive and my second hard drive (because most of my software installed on second drive I guess) so now my sys drive having problems and I'm gonna secure erase it and I want to restore that backup, but that image contains two harddrives and I don't want to overwrite my second drive, all I want is first drive only, so my question is it possible to restore only system drive without second drive been overwritten??

if the image you made contains both drives combined together in the same file, well, that probably wasn't the smartest way to do it.

i dont think you'll be able to restore just one drive only. Pull the restore utility up and see what it will allow.. If not, best option would be to unplug the drive you want to keep, and put another temporary drive in it's place for the restore. then swap the good one back in and don't do backups that way next time

yeah, windows backup kinda sucks this way...

i partition my laptop with system and another for data... backed up just the system partition... restored and it wiped out the data partition without warning...

yes, that was my mistake to use windows backup tool, I just didn't have any backup tools that would work with win7 at that time...
