i5 2500K stay with the stock cooler for now?

Thread Starter
i know ill probably want to overclock the i5 eventually, but i see no need for gaming now and im thinking, do i need to go ahead and use a overclocking cooler or stick with stock for now, my worry is if i need to upgrade later i could mess up the processor. am i stressing out over nothing? but it seems kinda cheapy to not go ahead and put an aftermarket fan on just to save like 50$. also, i believe the i5 is pin less, does that make a difference?

If you ain't going crazy with it, you should be fine with the stock cooler.

If you want something that would run quieter (depending on what fans you would buy) for now then go for it. Otherwise your processor will be fine when you do make the switch

If you're not overclocking, stick with the stock cooler.

Why wait? Just get a good cooler now, and not only will you have great OC potential right now, but you'll save yourself some work by not having to uninstall the stock cooler.

Ive got 4.3 ghz on the stock cooler

max temp 84 on prime95 for a few hours

I got from 3.3ghz too 4.2ghz on 1.200v, and then I needed too increase it from 1.200 to 1.235 JUST too get from 4.2 too 4.3, I think I may have hit a wall in my i5, so a aftermarket cooler is not priority at the moment.

Thanks

Dont worry about bottlenecking, Mine on 3.3ghz doesnt bottleneck my 2x gtx 570s.

Your chip may not reach 4.3ghz either though, it may require more voltage then mine which would increase the temperatures, but you should get it too around 4ghz at least. They are marketed for 3.7ghz turbo so 4ghz should be okay. All the chips are different though.

Other people have said on here, just get a 212+ or something cheap. The only reason im still on the stock cooler is because im saving up for a watercooling setup

But if your only intention is gaming, youl easily get that puppy too 4ghz which is PLENTY of power for gaming.
