955 BE @ 46 idle?

Thread Starter
Just got my new CPU at micro center. Ive had it for about a day and Ive noticed temps are kinda high. Im running 45/46 on idle and my ambient temp is 28c should I be worried since its on stock clock and stock cpu cooler? I planned on getting a CM 212+ in about a week.

Hi, you need to take the voltage down to say 1.35v manually in the bios. Don't leave on AUTO.

Your current voltage is for a 4Ghz OC or so.

Your temps will be a bit better @ 1.35v. Ofcourse your chip can be stable at even lower voltage than that, it's your job to find out.

Lower voltage equals less heat and power used.

Well, take your voltage down to something like 1.35V's for the moment. I recommend you instead, get the Corsair Hydro H80 Over the 212+.

Beat me to it ^

Your voltage is huge for a stock 955.

Example, i'm at 4GHz, with less Vcore...

Took my voltage down to 1.35 (1.344 in CUPZ) and temps are at 41/42. Still seem kinda high for stock IMO.

Im not interested in water cooling. 212+ is $24.99 at my local microcenter. I dont think theres anything better for that price ATM.

That cooler is great, especially the price.

Idle means nothing, it's load is what matters.

Keep your chip 55'C max prime95/ LinX load.

I'm willing to bet your stable @ 1.3v imo.

That's true, plus it's a good cooler. Maybe when you get the extra cash pick up a H50 or something small. They work like a charm!

Just ran prime95 for about 10mins to check and was at 54/55 under 100% load. How much cooler will my temps be with the 212+ at stock?
your temps will probably look a little high for a couple days till the paste gets set.
as for AMD stock coolers they stink at cooling.
I tried using the stock cooler for 2 months as it was not an o.c. rig and temps were always in the mid to high forties for a week then dropped to 38- 39c
put a zalman 9700 on it and dropped temps to 30-32c at idle and load was a mere 42c. with artic silver 5

I have the same CPU, when i first ran it on stock cooler the temps were pretty much the same, so i got a Corsair H50 and now it idles @ 29-32 (depending on the room's temp).
is there a reason you are avoiding water cooling?
