I'm using Intel atm, and I'm recommending the AMD build. There has to be a reason right?

OP said he would be gaming with this future set up, the 2500K's high clocked cores will more than enough.

No need for 8 cores.

Intel, no contest for gaming and most other things as well really. Going AMD right now is pointless. Waiting on BD is the only other option, I wouldn't buy an AM3 system right now in hopes of getting a drop in BD chip as we have no idea how it is going to perform yet. Not worth the risk. So either get a 2500K now or wait on BD. Even then, BD will probably, at best, equal SB performance or slightly better for a little premium on price. So you would be getting about the same performance either way, so why wait?

This is coming from a huge AMD fan btw. I just know when to jump over when the gap is so wide. I'll jump right back if BD does some thumping.

When are you going to be building this? September BD will be released so I would wait till then just to see if it does perform well.

Yeah I will probably build it in september or october so I could wait for BD. Strat79 I also have been a huge AMD fan, have used nothing but AMD in every computer I've built but I've been hearing really good things about the latest intel cpu's so I am leaning toward building my first intel system

or two of these

or save it up for bulldozer
The performance difference between the memory is unnoticeable without benchmarking. It's more worthwhile to pocket the $30.

If you can wait, then wait. I won't call myself a fan, but I've supported AMD since the K6-2 and have personally been using AMD since 2001, but I couldn't wait for Bulldozer any longer. The delays were getting comical and I actually have work I need to get done before the end of the month. I had reached the point of refusing to post-process RAW photos on my old gimpy computer because it wasn't worth the aggravation. I made my move less than a month ago and the time and price was right to go with Sandy Bridge.

Gaming: SB

The extra cores in the AMD build would help with video processing/encoding and the like, but if you're only gaming, SB all the way.
