Good (or...better at least) cheap headphones?

Thread Starter

Right now I have some Sony MDR-XD200's that I got for free, they're not amazing but they're a huge step up from the in ears that come with mp3 players and stuff, but I notice a little bit of distortion at highish volumes.

I'm looking for something noticeably better, without spending much. I have very little to spend.

I use them for music mainly. Thrash metal and other types of metal and rock mostly,
I'm a drummer, and I use them to play along with music, so I want enough noise canceling that I can hear the music without turning them up waaay too loud, but not so much that I can't hear my drums clearly.

So I was thinking about getting some JVC HARX700's But I really don't even want to spend that much, but I know I need to
Would I even notice a big difference between those and my current ones?
Are there any even cheaper headphones that would be better than my current ones?

Oh and I have onboard sound on my laptop(what I use when I'm drumming) and my desktop. And my 5th gen ipod video when I go places.
Which reminds me of another question, what's the sound quality like of an ipod vs onboard computer?

I've got the RX700s big brother, the RX900s, and I love them. They will make a difference in sound quality. They seem like a good choice for you as they're semi-open, allowing you to hear your drumming without turning them down too much.
