[1UP] Diablo 3 Will Require Players to be Online When Playing - Page 5

I don't see the big deal. Pretty much everyone has 24/7 internet. I could really care less if I have to be online to play singleplayer.. I would be online anyway.

Exactly. I really enjoyed Diablo 2, but I refuse to have to have internet to play this. Some of my best memories playing D2 were with friends in a coffee shop without internet. Couple the above with the new AH features, and no thanks. I didn't want D3 as an MMO knockoff with pay2win features.

My sister and her boyfriend don't have Internet. There are still people without Internet. But beyond that what about when you are out and about with your laptop? Or on the plane? Or on vacation in a cabin for two weeks with no Internet?

What happens in 8 years when Blizzard pulls the plug on their servers? Or if they go out of business? You are stuck with an unplayable game. There is NO reason for it besides combating piracy. So sure, for the most part, for most people, the inconvenience is not necessarily huge, but why should I or any other paying customer have to put up with any of it just for the sake of hurting those who don't pay for the game? Its more of the same old thing that doesn't end up working anyway. I for one am sick of it and I have been voting with my dollar.

Like all constant-connection games, the only peeve I have is instability.

Say I have a day off, so I decide to play Diablo III. Four hours in, I'm unstoppable. It's grabbing my attention, the storyline is pulling me in. I go grab a Hot Pocket. Come back, I've been kicked out of my game, because of a spike on my already spotty ISP. I would rage pretty hard Supposedly, I have 24/7 up-time, but it's hardly the case when the only service I can get completely shuts down for two hours each night.

Diablo II wasn't really known for its single player anyways. I remember wasting thousands of hours on multiplayer and rerolling constantly when ladders reset. Diablo in general is incredibly boring if you're playing offline.

I enjoyed just hanging out and running through the storyline, the first time through anyway lol. yeah so what, multiplayer was a big deal but still to require an always on Internet connection? After watching world of warcraft go ez-mode and now D3 turn into this RMT,Digital rights management nonsense it is done for me. I will see you guys on Torchlight 2.

This saves me some money, I wanted to get the collectors edition..Thanks Blizz!

I played mainly offline or on Open LAN. It comes down choice. Offline was a convenient way to test builds for example. Or not deal with pk or cheaters. So it's more effort for them to offer less choice and related to this is no mods. There are still D2 mods being played to this day, like Median XL. Fewer options and more MMO style. I guess if one could be online and have a closed game, that could= single-player but it sounds like that won't be an option.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm not completely disregarding the merits that offline had, as I do remember testing builds that way. All this talk about drm and item selling has me a bit disheartened, but diablo will always be my favorite franchise growing up, so I'm still hoping it'll be as good as the last.

And game developers actually wonder why people aren't interested in purchasing the products they make!!! Doesn't take much brain power to figure that one out, treat people like criminals and they will act like criminals. There is so much contempt between PC gamers and developers already. How much more straw before the camels back breaks I wonder?
