If it has a single player mode it needs to be playable offline. Period. End.

I don't get upset that I cannot play World of Warcraft offline because it is a multi-player game that is meant to be played over the internet. Diablo III has a single player mode and as such it should be playable offline, DRM be damned.

I am not advocating that they remove the single player game, but to be completely honest I don't see the point of a single player mode if you *have* to be connected to the internet to play it. Why even add it at that point?

RMT and this announcement has certainly tempered my excitement about this game. Still looking forward to it though, I think I finally got bored of Diablo II yesterday.

Hyperbole is the most awesomemest thing ever! Because not wanting a forced internet connection for a single player game is totally a valid indictment of the human species.

The world, nay, not even North america, has 100% internet saturation. Disconnect the single player campaign from the online, and the concerns about offline botting and cheats are irrelevant. Instead, Blizzard chose to ignore those who may not always have internet on their mobile devices. I was hoping to load this on my laptop for work and family trips, but knowing that I wont be able to play it most of that time, or only intermittently, makes it a non purchase now.

Sure, I am a small part of the market. But not accommodating small portions of the gaming market, instead forcing all players into the game-mode that includes an AH (that they make a cut off of) is an obvious ploy to increase profits off the game (and gamers).

Not surprised, but entirely disappointed.

Doesn't Blizzard make a ton of profit off of all their games period?

One of the things I liked about Diablo is that the single-player mode didn't suck, compared to the multiplayer experience. I could play it through airplane flights, trips, and other places I needed to be entertained without internet (when there was nothing else to do, of course). This DRM will be cracked. I was surprised they went this far to add DRM, considering the profit they made, and the type of gamers they sell to. Whatever the decision, this will only hurt Blizzard in the long run...

A business is a business. You said it yourself. You are a small market. There are very few companies that care about the little guys.

So again. MP game requiring you to be online. You may not like it, but most people that complain about this were probably going to pirate it for the SP.

Yea, it will most likely be cracked ( Was Ubisoft's online-requirement cracked? ), but a business is a business. Notice how LAN doesn't really exist anymore in newer games. Times change.

The people that are saying they won't buy it probably wouldn't have bought it anyway. Diablo has never really been a single player game.
I played it offline for years before finally getting on BNET. All that happened on there was my exposure to cheaters and hackers that whined whenever I would summon a Valkyrie since it would make them time out if they touched it.

I still preferred the single player over MP and would not care if Diablo III had no MP. Personally, I don't know of anyone else that is going to play it, and I do not want to look for a random "e-buddy" to team up with to get through it like I had to with Magicka.

so Diablo III on the go will be not possible, what a load of crap. This DRM crap is really ruining gaming.

Say what? I'm pretty sure Diablo was a single player ONLY game. By the way, I rarely played online but logged hundreds of hours on solo and LAN.

Edit: Guess there was multi-player for Diablo. Then again I had nobody to play with in 1996/1997.
