[PCG] Diablo 3 will let players buy and sell items for real money - Page 21

I don't disagree but it could be a nice feature of the game. The fact of the matter is this already existed in D2, Blizzard just had nothing to do with it. There were dozens of sites where people could blow their money to get items in-game. Anyone ever hear of D2JSP? Yeah, who knows how many thousands of people purchased forum gold to buy items through the forums.

Did this effect your D2 experience? You probably never noticed the difference and the fact of the matter is you will never notice in D3. You just assume it is another service that Blizzard is providing to get more money out of the players and you might be right in assuming that. The thing is is that no one is forcing you to use it and Blizzard isn't just in business to make video games, they're in business to make money.

Edit - By the way, read the article and not just the title of this thread.

The thing is, the average player probably would not notice it directly, but on the whole scale of the game, you can tell that this wouldn't be very beneficial in strengthening the in-game currency, which was one of the main problems in D2.

Of course there were multiple websites where you could buy gear, but that is because of how ridiculously easy and fast it was to bot. Having a Blizzard supported AH only pushes the script kiddies to bot, and soon enough, the whole game is going to be filled with botters trying to make a few bucks. It ruins the whole feel good idea of being able to earn something through hard work, when someone else can simply buy the item.

But unlike a game such as World of Warcraft, you aren't forced to interact with the botters if you don't want to. Just play a online game with your friends or even single player. Who cares if people are botting and buying/selling expensive gear? You can isolate yourself from them if you want to.

I'm just going to laugh when I read the stories of people committing suicide when Blizzard launches an expansion for D3. Suddenly a $1000 character is worthless as better gear enters the game...

Well there is going to be a separate auction house in which you use the in-game gold. There must be some kind of conversion rate of gold to dollars to keep some consistency between the two auction houses. If that is the case I don't see an issue with gold being weak.

Do you really think that it is going to be that easy to bot in D3? It isn't going to be as easy as it was in D2 and Blizzard is going to forcefully ban the use of them.

You are right except that single player doesn't exist in D3.

True, it's not like an MMO where you run into botters left and right, but I only hope that Blizzard does step the game security up. It would be terrible to get to end game only to find people botting through the final boss over and over again like in D2.

I don't agree with the idea of just playing with your friends though. I mean, its supposed to be an "online" game, and with Blizzard trying to squeeze out single player, you're bound to run into botters.

I can only imagine what PvP is going to be like. Getting dominated by someone decked out in godly gear bought from the AH is no fun.

Yeah, you might be able to convert your dollars to gold easily, but what would be the point when you could just buy what you need with money? And since there will be less botting, wouldn't this mean there would be less D2JSP and the like? I just don't understand why this is needed in a game like Diablo.

By that logic one could argue it's like child porn; just because it's already happening doesn't mean we should support it.

Eh I guess there is single player if you have a connection to D3 and create a private game for yourself. Guess the meaning of it has changed, w/e.

Also you just compared a video game to child porn. GJ.
