[PCG] Diablo 3 will let players buy and sell items for real money - Page 7

I think that more people will be intrested in making real money rather then playing the game and have fun. Just my thought.

Don't see the problem. Now there is a legitimate and safe way for people to buy and sell things.

It was going to happen regardless via 3rd parties.

As with many things, if you don't like it, don't use it. If you want to whine about other people spending money, then you might as well not play D3 online at all because it would have happened regardless.

I hate to use the "S-word" here, but I would much rather pay a monthly subscription than this. If you play any competitive game then you know that there are always people out there looking to exploit other players. This seems like an invite for gamers like that. Require a subscription while keeping the game balanced and hacker free and provide a fair amount on content updates. Everyone wins.

I played the hell out of WC1, WC2, WC3, DII, DII-X, SC, WoW, WoW BC, and yes, I loved Lost Vikings as well.

I did NOT buy SC2, and I never will. I will never get back into WoW. I will not buy D3.

I loved Blizzard and their games - when they made great games for the sake of making great games. I have a hatred for their new and terrible money grabbing tactics and ridiculous DRM nonsense. I will never buy a game that requires me to log onto the internet for the single player campaign. I will not buy a strategy game that does not have LAN support.

Blizzard may be getting a new crowd of buyers, but they sure as heck lost a person who has supported their company to get them off the ground. I am sure that I am not alone in my sentiments. I doubt Blizzard cares, at all. Honestly, I don't either. This is how things go. I can't say that I am surprised. I have just taken my business elsewhere.

Sigh...looks like PC gaming or maybe just gaming in general really is dieing. This is just absurd and very disappointing.... Why does every game have to do this now? So much greed....

I asked if they’d still do it even if they couldn’t take a cut of the sales. “Absolutely,” says Jay.

Sooo, why the flock did you?

This really ruins the game for me. I do not like WoW, now I get a 3rd person version?
Diablo was one of my favorite games ever, I was so excited for III, but right now I think I'd rather just have DII with a graphics upgrade.

And I hope by 'no offline mode' they don't mean No Single Player. I didn't even like SCII that much, what are you doing, Blizzard?

It would be nice if I could sell items to recover some of my game expense... Region-lock sales, please

Exactly...seems like the days of good quality games are over. Now games will just consist of buying fantasy items with non fantasy money.

Ive never seen so many people not read an article and jump to conclusions at the same time. Read the article, then realize the benefits this could bring. Blizz also said there would be no bots or mods into this game which will help keep it pure as well. I think blizz is doing a fine job so far and i just wont pvp until i know im ready.
In response to people saying it would have no affect and all Blizz is doing is making it safer to buy items as oppose to third party sites.

Making this feature a core part of the game changes the "culture". Having third parties run the real money exchange made it a taboo, like in WoW if people knew you bought your character either for PvP or PvE there was always a stigma attached. But having the real money exchange part of the game can reduced, maybe even remove these stigmas and make it common place.

Blizz games, I feel, have always been about competition or cooperation. Both of those can be accidentaly circumvented by taking the easy route and just buying the end result. And I know people, they will take the easy route.

I think the writer said it best when he said
Quote:
I asked Jay if they saw this as a problem. “That’s not anything different than Diablo 2,†he says. “The best items that came through that game did come through trading, and came through interacting with other players.â€

True for some, I guess, but one of the reasons they’re doing this is that there weren’t convenient ways to find and trade items in the previous Diablo games, and no safe way to do so for real money. By making it easy, legal and searchable, Blizzard have put the boring option temptingly close to the long and rewarding search for great loot.
The chance of purchasing gear becoming common place and ruining the gameplay is enough for me not to purchase it till much later after the release if at all.
