AM3 to AM3+ (BD) route:

£169 ASUS Sabertooth 990FX

£66 8GB DDR3 1866 Corsair Vengeance

£86 Phenom II X4 955 (Temporary CPU, sell and replace once BD releases in September)

Total £321, save the rest for when BD is released.

Intel route:

£135 ASUS P8P67 Pro

£60 8GB DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengeance

£163 Intel Core i5-2500K

Total £358.

Both totals low enough to add another 8GB of memory if desired.

Yep, both processors have unlocked multipliers so you should be able to overclock them both fairly easily.

The 955 should be good for ~3.7-3.8ghz; any higher and you start to require a lot more voltage, though it's definitely possible to go even higher.

The 2500K is simply put, a beast. People are saying you are able to do 4.0-4.2ghz on basically auto settings and just cranking up the multiplier a little bit. I'd say the most popular level of overclocking is about 4.5ghz, that's what most people seem to keep theirs at for 24/7 usage. Even at equivalent clock speeds, the 2500k should beat the 955 in virtually any application.

I was on the verge of building a 2500K pc myself but decided to hold off until Bulldozer was released. If you're not in a huge rush to upgrade (like myself), then it might be worthwhile to hold onto your money for a tiny bit longer just to see if the new AMD processors have promise. That being said, you can't really go wrong with the 2500K if you do want to build right now, it is simply an amazing bang for the buck.
