Sony KDL55EX500

Evening all!

Now I need a new television for Blu-Ray playback and PS3 gaming as my girl friend has kicked the PS3 out of the lounge room. So I went searching and I saw the Sony KDL55EX500 at a local store the other day and I was wondering if I could get some feedback on it?

Link to Sony KDL55EX500 here

The store had Unstoppable playing on Blu-Ray and it looked pretty good but then again I am not very good judge of character when it comes to these things. So I thought I'd post on Overclock.net as many users have been very helpful in the past so I don't see why you'd all stop now.

Anyway thank you very much in advance

Kind Regards

Callen

It's a good TV, it just needs a little tweaking in the settings to make the picture perfect.

However, looking at the link you provided, I believe it's wildly overpriced at $1999 AUD. How much was it in store?
I've seen it for about $1300USD here which is about 1185AUD

Everything is still insanely overprived in Australia despite our strong dollar and the companies are loving it. Currently it's $1700 AUD.

So it just needs some tweaking here and there in the settings and it's fine?

It should be good after you adjust the settings to your liking. I've seen people give great reviews when hooking their PS3 to it.

Still, 1700 AUD is so much for it, what other TVs were in the store? You may want to check out other options if available. Unless money is no problem for you lol.

Other good TVs to check would be the Samsung 6000-8000 LED series, if you have a dim room, the same Plasma series has slightly better blacks and usually is a little cheaper.

Also, see if they will play something else on the TV in store, Unstoppable doesn't really show off a TV's abilities.

Believe it or not that's the cheapest 55" LCD I've seen. Sad isn't it? Even with our strong dollar we're still paying so much more for everything due to lazy/greedy retailers. I would consider importing something from America but then I've got the $250 import fee.

I wonder what I could find for $1500 AUD from America and use the $200 left from that to get it through customs.

Just looked at the LCD's you suggested and I am looking at $3500-5500. Not really within budget mate but thanks for suggesting it.

EDIT 1: Just looking on Amazon.com right now to see who will send to Australia.

EDIT 2: No one.

Well then, I guess go with the Sony, it's still a good TV.

Sucks that TVs are overpriced there especially since your AUD is more than my USD too.

go for a higher series and get an LED
it doesn't suffer viewing angle problems like LCD's do
I have an LED sony and absolutely love it
never going to back to LCD
fast start up time, less energy and heat
no back light bleeding, even brightness all around, superior viewing angles
the XMB menu is slow... compared to PS3's it's lightning fast
once u experience a really good LED set LCD's feel like garbage

Considering the cost of this LCD, I'm guessing an LED model is going to be a decent amount more in AUS.

LED TVs are still LCD, LED is just the back-lighting method. You are over-generalizing LED TVs over normal LCD TVs. A lot of the things you mention vary by model.

Through a discussion with another user on the forums I found out the KDL55EX500 has an input lag of 66ms and went on to suggest the Samsung 55" UA55D6000SM it costs a bit more ($400 to exact) but the input lag is reduced and I get an overall better product so I'll be purchasing that once I've got the extra cash up.

Life would be so much more easier if I could sell my laptop and Z-5500's
