Same here. Intel really should let this one spread around so we can enjoy and support it.

Yep. It runs off of Light Peak, too. That's the official name for Thunderbolt. Sony just has a proprietary solution.

My fingers are crossed for development kits being available. Like how anyone can pick up an Arduino board and go to town. I'm sure the community can make some incredible things happen with Thunderbolt.

I disagree. The average home computer right now could be replaced with laptops. Most consumer computers use integrated graphics anyway. The only thing that holds people back from buying laptops instead of desktops is price really, and this doesn't help that out at all.

There will always be a place for desktops, simply because you can get more power out of your equipment in a desktop. Laptop chips need to run cooler and that means running with less voltage and lower clock speeds than a comparable desktop chip. With desktops cooling is not much of a problem. Even with external GPUs, if you could match the performance of a mid range desktop with some laptop setup, I guarantee the laptop will be much more expensive.

And you can't choose what you want in it.

also, you won't need more than one thunderbolt port to SLI/Crossfire:
