sound is very low with my new ASUS XONAR DX - Page 2

How does it sound when you play music? How loud is the volume when playing music?
hello again biggrin.gif

Sad to hear that , but since it did good in gaming that might lead us to a software issue (so bad i dont have my Xonar DG ) there got to be something in the APIs menus to solve this issue

And BTW maybe the softwares you use for playing movies and music has something in the settings to do

Other wise maybe you have to try and do clean install of the drivers using the bundled CD , to do so uninstall the drivers normally and then use DriverSweeper app , then install the drivers again

I had a similar problem with my D2X when I first got it, I had it running great on windows vista 64 bit for a week when I got it, then one day it decided to stop amplifying ths sound, so it would work if my receiver was at 100%. I tried everything, I switched ports on the motherboard reseated the power connector, tried a different receiver reinstalled drivers purged the registry of sound drivers and then reinstalled them again, I thought it was gone for sure.

for other reasons I decided to switch to windows 7 64 bit and to my surprise when windows 7 started for the first time it kicked my receiver into protect mode, so I turned down the volume to normal levels on the receiver and everything worked great! havent had any problems since I installed windows 7. I'm thinking maybe you might be in the same situation I was in, do you have another hard drive sitting around where you could try out a second windows installation to test it out?

hello my dear friend ,

I currently use media player classic and Gom player to play both the movies and music .

off course it's a software issue , I have a headphone creative HS-600 and connected to the front panel but completely separated from the asus card , and when I play a movie or listen to music , it sound so much better than the speakers !

I'll try a clean install of the drivers on the CD , and see where It would take me smile.gif

but I don't understand , you said you had the same problem and it was solved when you switched to Win 7 ?

by the way I have win 7 64bit !!

I just watched a trailer in youtube , and the sound was very very good and loud , I was really amazed , so what does this mean ?

I do not believe it was a windows vista specific problem as windows 7 and windows vista are virtually the same thing where windows 7 has a LOT of minor improvements. I feel the problem is close enough to the same thing to where it may have something to do with the way Longhorn (vista/7) handles certain things.

also on another note, when I posted this problem on forums before It was suggested that I should uninstall any other audio devices such as onboard audio or previous card audio drivers. didn't work for me but hopefully you will be luckier smile.gif

also when you say the sound is terrible, do you mean it has a lot of crack and pops because your receiver is cranked so high? or is there distortion directly from the card?

just in case you dont know what i meant with (clean uninstall with DriverSweeper)

here you go

1-download this http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/Version-3-1-0/

2-uninstall the drivers using normal uninstaller

3-reboot in SafeMode and run DriverSweeper >ASUS sound>analyse.........then its all gone (this can help you in ATI drivers in many cases)

4-boot normally into win7 and install the drivers

hope it works

Here's an older thread with a similar issue, I don't think the guy ever got it resolved.

So far I tried putting my xonar dx on a different pci-e slot and replugged the power connector. Then I reinstalled the drivers and my sound still doesn't seem to be loud enough. My old Audigy SE definitely drove my headphones louder, maybe around 50% more.

I've already did a clean install of Win 7 and I didn't allow it to install any drivers for the onboard audio device .

I'll explain to you what I mean with the sound is being terrible , you know when you buy a very cheap speakers and connect it to a radio or something , and you listen to a song or a music , then you get a very nice and delicate speakers with a professional sound card and hear the same song or music , you'll notice a very big difference in sound quality and some other things , right ?

this is what I feel , there are no distortions , no cracks , no pops , nothing

the sound is normal , but the quality is very poor , and I know that there is something wrong , because when I play a game , or watch a 1080 video on youtube , the sound quality is astonishing , I mean just wonderful smile.gif

Sound is evenly distributed for me. Games, Youtube, Itunes, etc. It's just that it's not loud enough for me when using headphones. I thought this xonar dx would be as loud, if not louder than my old sound blaster audigy se.

hmmm... your issue sounds more complex than mine was frown.gif mine was kind of all or nothing type of deal where everything stopped working, while some applications were louder, the quality was the same across all programs

Mine just didn't seem to be powering up the internal amplifiers.

this problem is definitely keeping me interested lol tongue.gif
