Not sure how not having a rich friend who gives away hardware makes me a fool, but ok.

P.S. I already have 2 580's.

Same.

Also, for those who decided to have a bf3 alpha fps war, it was not intended. Nvidia has not released drivers to optimize with it, obviously, since its not even an official release and nvidia owners are seeing varied fps regardless of card. both my 580's got about 100 minimum and I saw it go as high as 150 in some areas. On 3 monitors it should stay above 60, of course assuming that dice optimizes it and that nvidia releases drivers to get better performance with that game. Back to topic though. Its a good card that he managed to get for 250. Lets get off our bf3 high horses as its nowhere near topic.

You could get another Lightning Xtreme right now, they are in stock in a number of places. I have a normal Lightning which has been out of stock every where for weeks, so I gave up on waiting and ended up just getting a normal TFII 580 for SLI.

All I'm going to say is that a single 580 was pretty much enough for me, but there's always room for more overkill, right?

Listen to my little story.

I bought a ASUS Gtx 580 DirectCu II for a 42" 1080p HDTV. I was told while building my PC that two DirectCu IIs would be overkill for my small resolution. So I just bought one and installed it in my first slot, the top slot.

I figured that if I did indeed need SLI later on I would just buy a second one. I installed my Creative Titanium HD soundcard (best purchase of my life, my baby). I have only three PCI-E slots on my MB. The problem is that the DirectCu II is a giant beast and requires three slots in the case. It reduces noise (mine is quiet while gaming!) and improves the thermal performance.

Anyway, it leaves almost no room for my middle slot, and the Titanium HD (which is super slim BTW) cannot fit, so SLI is out for me.

So I am enjoying what I have very much. If I need to upgrade, I will sell this and buy another powerful card. Single card is safest and most stable anyway.

JackC64, have fun!

Three-slot cooler is the exact reason I didn't go with the DirectCU II. I wanted SLI straight away...
